John F. Collins practices corporate, commercial, employment, and general business law. John is a practical, results orientated, lawyer who advises clients in diverse engineering, manufacturing, and service industry segments. He has both a business and law degree.
From 1980 to 1991, John was a member of a Fortune 100 corporate law department (Litton Industries Inc.) Reporting to Litton’s corporate headquarters in Beverly Hill, California, John was Vice President and Division Counsel of Litton Systems Canada Limited, a Toronto based aerospace, electronics, and defence systems company.
While with Litton, John managed all legal affairs associated with over $5 billion in domestic and international sales made by Litton Systems Canada Limited, including negotiating some of the largest defence contracts ever awarded by the Canadian Government. He also managed all legal aspects associated with the 1981 terrorist bombing of Litton Systems Canada Limited’s Etobicoke facility.
In 1991, John moved to San Diego, California to practice in-house with the corporate law department of Science Applications International Corporation, a Fortune 500 scientific, defense, and computer science corporation.
In 1993, John returned to Toronto and joined Gardiner Roberts LLP where he practiced for thirteen years.
From 1996 through 2003, John acted as co-leader of a legal team which obtained one of the largest judgments ever awarded against the Canadian Government related to a defence contract (Amertek. V. Canadian Commercial Corporation).
From 2006 through 2023, John practiced with Macdonald Sager LLP, a downtown Toronto law firm.

Interests
John has had a life-long interest in aviation. In his spare time, John is an avid golfer.

John appeared on the CBC’s “The Fifth Estate” television show, as well as on CBC’s “The National”, regarding the Amertek v. Canadian Commercial Corporation government contract litigation.
He also appeared in Lexpert Magazine’s March 2004 article on the Amertek case entitled: “Fronti Nulla Fides: The Amertek Litigation”.
